Car Tent

Do you want to be able to bring your accommodation wherever you travel? Then a car tent, or roof tent as it is also called, is the answer to your wishes! Our car tents can be mounted on most cars with regular roof racks and make it easy to go out on both small and big adventures.

A car tent is a portable sleeping place mounted on the roof of your car. It gives you a luxurious camping experience with minimal effort. Forget the stress of booking hotel rooms or having to arrive at your accommodation at a certain time. Car tents give you the freedom to travel and stay wherever you want.

5 advantages of car tents

A car tent offers many benefits for both car vacationers, off-road adventurers, and outdoor enthusiasts.

1. Freedom

The biggest advantage our customers usually highlight is the freedom that comes with a car tent. You get the flexibility to travel and stay wherever you want. You don’t need to book hotels or cabins and are not limited to specific camping areas or crowded campsites, but can instead explore remote places and discover hidden gems off the beaten path.

2. Simplicity

Car tents are comfortable and easy to use. Unlike regular tents, which can be time-consuming to set up and take down, car tents can be mounted in just a few minutes. You can often leave blankets and pillows inside the tent when you fold it up. So you don’t have to pack and unpack these into bags as you must with a regular tent.

3. Comfort

Roof tents are equipped with a thick mattress (we have the thickest on the market!) which means you get a completely different level of comfort than in a regular tent.

Since your accommodation is on top of the car’s roof, you are also not dependent on finding a flat surface to pitch your tent. Forget stones and roots poking into your back – with a car tent you will sleep like a king.

4. The price

Have you ever wondered how much money you spend on hotels during a vacation? With a car tent, you always have accommodation for the whole family with you. This means the car tent will quickly have paid for itself in saved accommodation costs during the trip.

5. Extra security

Don’t worry about unexpected and unwelcome visitors. When you sleep in a car tent, you can feel safe knowing you are protected from weather and wind and any wild animals. Unlike traditional tents that can easily be accessed by animals or insects, car tents give you a safe and secure sleeping environment.

Factors to consider when choosing a car tent

Car tents can be mounted on most cars with regular roof racks. We recommend that you have roof racks that are either mounted on the car’s rails or fixed mounting points. Here you can read our guide to roof racks and roof tents.

You also need to check that your car’s roof has a maximum load capacity that accommodates both the weight of the car tent and your roof racks. When you load heavy on the car’s roof, the car’s center of gravity and driving characteristics change. The maximum load specified by car manufacturers is dynamic, meaning it is given for when the car is in motion. When stationary, a car can handle significantly higher weight on the roof, about 3-4 times as much

Another important thing to consider is what size you need for your car tent. This depends on how many people you want to be able to sleep in the roof tent, how big the people are, and how comfortable you are with lying close together. There is no exact answer here, just base it on your needs and space requirements. Our car tents are available for everything from 1-2 up to five people.

Smart features and accessories for car tents

Our car tents come with an 8-centimeter thick mattress. We have also chosen an extra hard floor for the tent which makes it both robust and shock-resistant. Through a roof hatch you can look out over the starry sky and if you buy an awning for your car tent you have accommodation on two levels where you can, for example, use the awning as a dining area with chairs and table or as an extra bedroom if you have guests with you.

If you want to camp even when the temperature drops, you can buy an insulating inner tent to get warmth up in the car tent.

Other accessories for the car tent can help make your camping experience more comfortable and enjoyable. For example, lighting, camping chairs, tables, solar panels, and portable stoves. Think about your specific needs and preferences when choosing accessories for your car tent, and don’t forget to pack all necessary camping equipment such as sleeping bags, kitchen utensils, and food.

Some tents also have additional features such as storage pockets, windows, and ventilation systems, which improve your camping experience. Make sure to follow the manufacturer’s instructions for use and maintenance of your car tent to ensure it lasts for many years to come.
