At Taktältarna, we want to contribute to more outdoor adventures and nature experiences by offering durable and high-quality roof tents. We also want to contribute to a more circular economy by offering people the choice to rent roof tents. Read on to discover how our rooftop tents not only enhance your camping experience but can also reduce your carbon footprint.
We are convinced that roof tents encourage spontaneous adventures and nature experiences that lead to both positive health effects for the individual and can contribute to reducing the users' climate footprint.
The roof tents' sustainability work consists of several parts:
- Offer a climate-smart holiday option.
- Develop sustainable products with a long lifespan.
- Contribute to a more circular economy.
- Encourage more adventures and outdoor experiences.
1. Offer a climate-smart holiday option
Flying is one of the worst travel choices you can make considering the climate. A car holiday with 3-4 people in the car is several times less harmful to the climate than flying - even if the car runs on diesel or petrol. When more and more people now switch to electric cars, the climate burden will decrease further.
If, instead of thinking about the flight, you are faced with the choice and qualification of buying a caravan or mobile home, roof tents are a significantly more environmentally friendly option, partly because fuel consumption is lower and thanks to a smaller climate impact from the manufacture of roof tents.
Your choice of accommodation on holiday also matters - although not at all to the same extent as the choice of mode of transport. If you choose to live in a roof tent, your accommodation will be climate neutral, unlike when you stay in a hotel, according to the site climate-smart holiday . In Sweden, the carbon dioxide emissions for a hotel night are around 7 kilos. In other countries where most of the energy comes from fossil sources, that figure can be as much as four times higher.
2. Contribute to a more circular economy.
By offering people interested in roof tents the opportunity to rent instead of buying, we give consumers the opportunity to make a more sustainable alternative and contribute to reduced overconsumption.
Circular economy is a concept that highlights the importance of using our resources in a more responsible and efficient way.
A circular economy is, among other things, about maximizing value and using resources as long as possible with sustainable solutions and new ways of using our assets. An example of that is renting instead of buying, which is a more sustainable option. When renting, each tent can be used more and the negative climate impact from manufacturing is therefore lower per roof tent adventure.
We probably have all the things at home that we bought but use very rarely. If you only want to use a roof tent occasionally, it is therefore much better to rent. Or; why not get together with the closest family, some friends, the housing association or the car pool and buy a roof tent together and share!
3. Develop sustainable products with a long service life
An important part of the concept of a circular economy is to, in contrast to today's wear and tear society, instead extend a product's lifespan.
To achieve this, it is required that the products we use are designed in such a way that they can be easily repaired. That's why we at Taktältarna work to ensure that all parts of our roof tents can be easily replaced. Should, for example, the ladder or the transport cover break, you only need to replace those parts, if something happens to the tent canvas, it can be easily detached and replaced with a new one, even the bottom plate can be replaced.
For us, it is important that our roof tents are used for a long time, and we therefore replace several of the parts on the roof tent for our customers if they break, at no extra cost.
As a small company, it is difficult to influence large manufacturers. In order to feel secure that the manufacturer we have chosen lives up to high demands on sustainability, we have chosen to place our production in the same factory where a large international company with ambitious sustainability work has manufacturing. In this way, we feel secure that the factory lives up to both environmental and social requirements.
Our roof tents are free of dangerous substances such as PFAS or flame retardants.
Encourage more adventures and outdoor experiences
With a roof tent on the car, it becomes easy to go out on both small and large adventures. We at Taktältarna want to encourage more adventures and outdoor experiences. We do this by creating and spreading inspiring and informative content about roof tents.
Being in nature reduces stress and increases well-being. Few things beat finding a magical campsite next to a lake, cooking over an open fire and spending time with people you love.
In summary, roof camping can contribute to promoting a more sustainable lifestyle because it contributes to nature experiences and increased well-being for those who camp. In addition, it encourages local tourism.
