The roof tents are founded by roof tent enthusiasts in Åre. Our focus is on offering the best roof tents to everyone who shares our passion for outdoor and camping life. Our goal is to make it easy for people to get out on adventures big and small, and to get more people to discover the allure of roof top tents.

It was love at first sight when Elisabeth Standár opened her eyes to roof tents. After a friend showed photos from his roof tent trip through North Africa, the family's first roof tent was bought in 2017.

This was a time when few Swedes even knew roof tents existed and there were no Swedish roof tent brands. Hence the roof tent was purchased without even seeing one in reality. When Elisabeth and her partner Ola Johansson came home newly saved after the first trip (to Gotland), the question was asked:

" Why doesn't everyone have a roof tent? This is the best thing in the world! ".

There and then the first seed for the Roof Tents was sown.

In 2019 we decided to follow our dreams. We left Stockholm, our well-paid and secure jobs, to move to Åre and live the life we ​​really wanted with proximity to mountains, outdoor activities and skiing.

As a direct result of the move, Elisabeth decided to dare to jump into the professional unknown and do something she was really passionate about - to make more people discover the allure of roof tents.

This is how Taktältarna 2020 was started. We started with rentals but soon decided to use the experience and knowledge we gained during our own roof tent travels to develop roof tents under our own brand .

We who started Taktältarna are Elisabeth Standár and Ola Johansson, partners in business and crime. We are out and about as much as we can and test and evaluate our own products - all year round.

Our children Vega and Blanca and our hunting labrador Ziggy usually accompany us on our roof tent trips.

Above all, we have pitched a lot in Norway and around Sweden. But just as much as the long journeys, we like to just go on a normal weekday after work/preschool.

Just going to a nice place close to home - camping, grilling and gazing at the fire and the view - and then going home early in the morning just in time for kindergarten drop-off.

A positive effect of roof tent life is that our air travel is rare these days.

The roof tents family is growing

Since the start in 2020, the Taktältarna family has expanded with both a warehouse in Värmland and rental partners  in Stockholm and Östersund, plus a number of external actors who offer rental and viewing of our roof tents under their own auspices.

Since spring 2023, we have a showroom with our rental partner in Västerhaninge, Stockholm.

And of course we have grown with all the lovely customers who bought and rented roof tents from us. Few things are as fun as being able to follow our customers' adventures , develop from their feedback and be inspired by all their own and creative solutions they come up with to make life with roof tents even better.
