The Roof Tentters was founded by roof tent enthusiasts in Åre. Our focus is on offering the best roof tents to everyone who shares our passion for outdoor and camping life. Our goal is to make it easy for people to go out on both small and big adventures, and to get more people to discover the charm of roof tents.

It was love at first sight when Elisabeth Standár discovered roof tents. After a friend showed pictures from his roof tent trip through North Africa, the family bought their first roof tent in 2017.

This was a time when few Swedes even knew that roof tents existed and there were no Swedish roof tent brands. Therefore, the roof tent was purchased without even having seen one in real life. When Elisabeth and her partner Ola Johansson, newly converted, came home after the first trip (which went to Gotland), the question was asked:

"Why doesn’t everyone have a roof tent? This is the best thing in the world!".

There and then the first seed for the Roof Tentters was sown.

In 2019, we decided to follow our dreams. We left Stockholm, our well-paid and secure jobs, to move to Åre and live the life we really wanted with proximity to mountains, outdoor life, and skiing.

As a direct result of the move, Elisabeth decided to dare to jump into the professional unknown and do something she really was passionate about – getting more people to discover the charm of roof tents.

Thus, the Roof Tentters was started in 2020. We began with rentals but soon decided to use the experience and knowledge we gained during our own roof tent trips to develop roof tents under our own brand.

We who started the Roof Tentters are Elisabeth Standár and Ola Johansson, partners in business and crime. We ourselves go out and roof tent as much as we can and test and evaluate our own products – year-round.

Often on our roof tent trips, our children Vega and Blanca as well as our hunting labrador Ziggy come along.

We have mainly roof tented a lot in Norway and around Sweden. But as much as we like long trips, we also like just heading out on a regular weekday after work/kindergarten.

Just going to a nice place near home – camping, grilling, and staring at the fire and the view – then going home early in the morning just in time for daycare drop-off.

A positive effect of the roof tent life is that our flights today are rare.

The Taktältarna family is growing

Since the start in 2020, the Taktältarna family has expanded with both a warehouse in Ulricehamn and rental partners in Stockholm, plus several external actors offering rental and viewing of our roof tents independently.

Together with our rental partners Anders Ekroth and Tommie Linder, we run a Showroom in Västerhaninge, Stockholm where you can see several of our different roof tents. In autumn 2024, we also opened a smaller Showroom in Åre where we also have our office.

And of course, we have grown with all the wonderful customers who have bought and rented roof tents from us over the years. Few things are as fun as following our customers' adventures, learning from their feedback, and being inspired by all the unique and creative solutions they come up with to make life with a roof tent even better.
