A roof tent is a tent that is mounted on the roof of the car and that you climb up to via a ladder. They have long been a common sight in countries such as Australia and New Zealand, and in recent years interest in Sweden has exploded.
- We started our rental business in Åre last year and immediately noticed a lot of interest. Our customers loved it and now we want to give more people the opportunity to try a new way of camping and vacationing, says Elisabeth Standár at Taktältarna.

- Rooftop tents are an exciting niche of their own - more comfortable and simpler than a regular tent and cheaper and freer than a mobile home or caravan, says Elisabeth Standár.
Renting a roof tent - a more sustainable option for many
Elisabeth thinks it is important to be able to offer the option of renting because it gives more people the opportunity to test roof tents.
- For many, renting a roof tent can be a better and more sustainable alternative than buying.
Among Taktältarna's customers, the feeling of freedom is highlighted as the main advantage of roof tents. Being able to decide for yourself where to set up camp and what view you wake up to. The convenience and simplicity are also advantages that customers highlight - that you avoid the cold of the ground and sticks and cones sticking up in the back, and that it can be quickly folded out and folded up.

The rental in Stockholm in collaboration with GetOut Events
The possibility to rent roof tents in Stockholm is open during the summer months. The rental takes place in collaboration with the activities company GetOut Events and the roof tents are collected from their premises in Västerhaninge. A good location due to the proximity to the Gotland ferries, Gotland is a popular roof tent destination.
